Computer is drivin me NUTZ!!!! hard drive problems?

laptop is vaio vgn nr38e.died a while back. just got round to attempt repairs, bought new hard drive. WD scorpio blue 250 gig. nothing will install, xp, vista, 7 nothing. took some advice from mate, created partitions. put drive in, and cant find the drive, get a long 0000 error code and it says something aboit I/O error too?????? put the hard drive from my other vaio in and it starts up fine, no problems. can anyone help. installed to loads of PCs, cant figure this one.
